Distributor WAVE Electronics has opened its ninth location with a branch in Dayton, N.J. A second New Jersey location in Edison is due to open by the end of 2012.

After the recent announcement of its national expansion plans, distributor WAVE Electronics has opened its second new location in the New Jersey market. The new location is ready for business on September 4th and the opening marks its ninth location.

The new northeastern facility is located in Dayton, N.J. just outside of Newark and Manhattan. WAVE is opening the will call location to immediately offer its customers a product mix including Polk, Elite, IC Realtime, Pioneer, RTI, Jamo and others. WAVE is also currently building out an additional location in Edison, southwest of the will call location, to open around the end of the year. This new full featured location, currently under construction, will have all of the services that WAVE customers in other markets enjoy. These include sound rooms, hand pick areas, training facilities, an “automated living room” and working demo storyboards.

Bryan Stewart, vice president of sales for WAVE Electronics, says, “In order to capture the most business, we are again moving into an area that is surrounded by many strong territories. We have built our outside sales team by adding Frank Lepore to the mid-Atlantic territory. He brings a strong integration background. Trevor de Maat, formerly of RTI, will be handling the New York metro area.” 

The new will call location is at 83 Stults Rd. Dayton, NJ 08810 and will house brands such as Sony, Onkyo, Pro Control, Proficient and 2GIG. WAVE has been operating eight branches in Texas and Louisiana which cover the Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi markets, as well as its newly opened Florida facility. Each branch utilizes an outside sales representative to cover the associated territory with locations incorporating showroom and training facilities, each ranging in size from 7,000 to 50,000 square feet.

Find out more here.Are you interested in becoming licensed to sell and install security products?  Below is a brief overview of the application process for the State of Texas.

The state of Texas requires licensing of any company in order to sell and / or install security based products, specifically alarms.  Any company receiving a license must be managed by an eligible individual.  Eligibility is based on criminal record and work experience.  In order to be eligible for a license, a manager must have relevant documented work history for at least two years related to the category applied for prior to application.  All other owners and principles of the company must also submit an application as well, however there can only be one designated manager.  If an individual representing a company does not have the requirements for a manager license on their own, the company can designate a different manager in order to obtain a license, however a manager cannot be responsible for more than three companies or two schools.  Work experience must be continuous and documented.  Background checks and fingerprint submission is required.  All individuals selling or installing security alarms must also be licensed individually and their license can transfer from one company to the next.

Registration for most alarm companies is $400 + $12 subscription fee for a total of $412.  Normal turnaround time is 6-8 weeks for a company.  Individual license turn around time is 4-6 weeks.  Licenses must be renewed on a yearly basis and renewing while still holding a valid license is a much simpler process than renewing after the license has expired. The entire application for license and renewals can be done online (except for the physical fingerprinting).

Summary:
All owners / principles become licensed.
All employees installing or selling security products are licensed under the company (but can transfer their license from one employer to the next).
All companies applying are managed by an eligible individual designated as a manager for the category of security product that they service.
License and subscription fees are paid.
All relevant applications, backgrounds, forms, and fingerprints are submitted.
The process takes 6-8 weeks.
Online processing is the easiest method for licensing.
